THE FOUR PILLARS OF AN ICON.
Woven into the very fabric of post-war London`s identity, Battersea Power station was created to meet the energy demands of the new age. Now the no-expense-spared rebirth of London’s famous landmark has been sympathetic to the original interior with key points throughout the building allowing the original spaces to breathe and tell their story.
The lowest three levels of the building have been converted into a large shopping centre containing 100 shops and numerous cafes and restaurants. It is accessed through a square which leads to an entrance hall with a full-height atrium set behind the building`s original retained wall. Escalators in this entrance hall lead up to the office space at the centre of the building, Apple’s new London office covering six massive floors.
In addition to exclusive high-end shops, recognisable coffee and food chain outlets, cafes, restaurants, theatre, hotel, medical centre and 19 acres of public space there will also be a total of 4,239 new homes.
The amazing transformation of this historic landmark is reflective of the city`s vivacious metropolitanism. It is an architectural feat bridging two times, reusing historically significant buildings and bringing a palpable excitement and anticipation to redefine this area of London that stood empty for so long.
